CRA iTunes Scam Strikes in Cold Lake

After a Bonnyville woman fell victim to a CRA phone scam demanding payment in iTunes gift cards in April, a similar case has popped up in Cold Lake.

Fortunately this time around police were able to work with Apple and get the victim’s money back. RCMP say these scammers have employed some sophisticated method. When the victim brought in the number she was told to dial and when dialed, it went to the CRA. The scammers were somehow able to divert the number from the caller’s phone for their purposes.
