Province and Cold Lake First Nations Working Together on Revamping Barry’s Bay Camping Site

The province is teaming up with the Cold Lake First Nations to give the campground at Barry’s Bay a whole new look and turn it into a top of the line destination.

Minister of Environment Shannon Phillips says the project includes some details to honour Aboriginal culture. Signage will be posted in both English and Dene and a variety of educational initiatives are being worked on as well.

Once completed, the area will feature 120 camp sites.  The first phase of the project, starting this month, will include the refurbishment of two camping loops in the south campground (47 stalls), a new access road and the expansion of the boat launch parking lot. Future plans include development of educational programming and interpretive signage in collaboration with the CLFN that will reflect their cultural significance and history to the land and region.

The first phase of the project is scheduled to be complete this August and will be marked by a grand opening event.
