Bonnyville Mayor Gene Sobolewski is wanting to sit-down with Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland and council, along with other communities in the area, to discuss surplus revenue from the air weapons range. Currently, the surplus money is given to The City of Cold Lake, though mayor Sobolewski is hoping that’ll change
Mayor Sobolewski says there’s many projects, such as the planned waterline that are no longer subsidized or paid for by the government. Further, the provincial government did not budget for so much infrastructure and building in Bonnyville and surrounding areas, so there simply is not funds. Mayor Sobolewski and councilors are looking outside the box for different ways to fund their projects.
Last year, the province of Alberta reported, The City of Cold Lake had a surplus of $5 million, above and beyond the expected amount from the Air Weapons Range. Mayor Sobolewski would like to see some of the revenue used for the town of Bonnyville and surrounding communities and welcomes a friendly discussion on the topic with The City of Cold Lake.
