Storm water project crosses Highway 28 in Cold Lake

The Meadows Storm Water Trunk Extension will soon begin to make its way across Highway 28.

The project, which is set to start by June 1, will deepen Palm Creek and complete a new, 1.2-metre storm water line crossing Highway 28 at 55 Avenue.

Motorists will experience periodic delays on Highway 28 by 55 Avenue as work is undertaken to extend the storm water trunk under the road. The project is expected to be complete by the end of October this year.

The Meadows Storm Water Trunk Extension is part of plans for a larger drainage parkway outlined in the City of Cold Lake’s Storm Water Master Plan. The Meadows Storm Water Trunk Extension and the proposed storm water parkway will service hard to drain land east of Highway 28, allowing storm water to flow south west under the highway and along a natural drainage corridor.

The total project cost is estimated at $5.5 million, with $2.5 million having been funded in 2015 and the remaining $3 million approved in the 2016 capital budget.
