Smoke Blanketing the Lakeland

Smoke from the Fort McMurray fire has traveled south to the Lakeland, causing the worst air quality of the year.

Cold Lake’s Air Quality Index is currently sitting at 17. Anything higher than 10 is considered to be very high risk. Reduce or reschedule strenuous activities outdoors, especially if you experience symptoms such as coughing and throat irritation. Sports teams across the region are cancelling practices today due to the conditions.

It is uncertain at this time how much farther south smoke will travel this afternoon. Showers in the area over the next few days should help to remove smoke from the air.
