Friendship Centre Still in Need of Donations

It appears some Lakelanders have heard that the Bonnyville Native Friendship Centre is well stocked for food items and doesn’t need donations.

Assistant Executive Director Pauline Mawer  wants to get the message out that this is absolutely not the case.

“I’ve got new clients coming in every day we’re open and it’s always the same old story. They lost their jobs, “I never thought I’d be in a situation like this. I’ve been working and ran out money.” It’s so sad and heartbreaking.”

Mawer says she’s had to give less food to clients than usual as supplies dwindle. The Fort McMurray fire has had an adverse effect on stock, as donations that might have usually gone the food bank’s way are now directed towards evacuees.

“We’ve had to buy a lot and we’re running low on funds as well. I don’t know. Sign of the times I guess.”

Donations can be dropped off at the Friendship Centre between 8:30am to 4:30pm every weekday. The centre closes for an hour between 12 and 1.
