There are important meetings today to address the chronic labour shortages in the Lakeland. A group of lakeland business owners and concerned citizens, which recently enlisted the help of strategist Hal Danchilla of the Canadian Strategy Group, has a full day of meetings today. Today the group will speak with Minister McIver – Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour; Greg Bassand his deputy minister. MLA Cal Dallas – Legislative Secretary, Intergovernmental Relations; MLA Doug Horner – Senior Advisor to the Premier on Federal and Provincial Relations and MLA Everett McDonald who sits on a number of labour and economic related committees. The group is hoping to lobby the government for an “exemption” or “regional carve out” to the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. In addition to these meetings they are in the midst of conducting the research to validate our position on this issue.
