Ecole Notre Dame’s Alexandra Shapka has spent the past few days in Edmonton with Scott Cyr and other Albertan politicians in Mr. SpeakerĀ“s MLA For a DayĀ program.

87 students from grades 10-12 from all over Alberta get to follow the legislature for three days every year. According to the Legislature’s website, students “Get to debate a resolution in the Chamber, tour the Legislature Building and spend time in their MLAs’ offices. They also attend a dinner and a luncheon hosted by the Speaker, view Oral Question Period and participate in briefing and discussion sessions with caucus representatives, Officers of the Assembly, members of the media or other presenters involved in the legislative process.”

The program is for students who have an interest in politics, allowing them to see in real life what they learn about in the classroom.
