MD Passes 2016 Budget

The MD of Bonnyville has passed a balanced budget of about 111.8 million dollars today.

While the portion of taxes the MD can decide on has remained unchanged from last year, the portion collected by the province has increased.  The school tax will be 3.2% higher this year, equating to a 36 dollar increase on a property valued at 500,000 dollars. Council estimates that by leaving their side of the tax bill unchanged, 70% of residents will see either no change or a decrease in that portion.

The budget includes 26.2 million for road improvements and construction for gravel, oiled, and paved roads. Another 14.6 million is allocated to gravel and oiled road maintenance. In addition 3.5 million is allocated for the next phase of the Ardmore Street improvements, 7 million for Gurneyville Road construction in 2017 and 2.5 for Baywood Road for possible next phase of construction in 2017 or 2018. The budget also includes $600,000 for Public Works equipment.
