Cold Lake to Look Into New Taxi Bylaws

Cold Lake City Council plans to look into how the local taxi industry is regulated.

The issue was brought forward at the City of Cold Lake’s Corporate Priorities Meeting, chaired by Deputy Mayor MacDonald on April 19th.

The commission has three key areas they would like to see revisions to. First, they hope to require cab companies to display to their pricing rates somewhere in the vehicle. Second, they’d like to introduce regular vehicle inspections to make sure cabs are in good condition and third, they’d like permits to have to be renewed every two years.

“Council wants to ensure that our bylaw is up to date, enforceable and fair for both passengers and the taxicab companies,” says MacDonald. “We will have further discussion about how to best proceed and how to ensure all the stakeholders are consulted, including the licensed taxi companies currently operating.”
