Cold Lake to Look Into Provincial Transit Funding

Mayor Craig Copeland says the city of Cold Lake is going to look at tapping into some 285 million dollars allocated by the NDP in their new budget for transit projects.

The city had their free public transit up and running well before the Green Transit Incentives Program (GreenTRIP) was announced, so whether or not the province favours funding new projects over already existing ones might be a factor. “Sometimes what they want to do is buy the capital assets,” explains Copeland, “buy the busses, buy the trains. So we’ll really have to get into the details. Are they going to help subsidize the actual operating costs of transit? We’ll have to find out.”

The city has until August 31st to apply. Copeland says the NDP has been made aware of Cold Lake’s transit project and some representatives will be out to have a look in the future.
