Unemployment Down Nationally, Up Locally

While today’s jobs report was largely great news for Canada including, Alberta, things look considerably less rosy here in the northeastern corner of the province.

While the provincial unemployment rate dropped considerably from 7.9% in February to 7.1% in March, the Cold Lake-Wood Buffalo region saw an increase from 9.3% to 9.8%.

Forestry, Fishing, Mining, Oil and Gas saw a slight uptick in job numbers. 149,200 people were working in the sector in March, up from February’s figures of 148,400. Alberta saw a net gain of 18,900 jobs on the month.
