Rednecks With A Cause Donates $17,500 to Lakeland Schools for Sensory Rooms

Rednecks With a Cause raised a whopping $37,600 at their dinner this Saturday, but they weren’t the only ones to receive a generous donation.

During the dinner, the charity announced that they had donated $2,500 back to every school in Bonnyville to help buy new equipment for their sensory rooms.

Sensory rooms are for when an autistic student becomes overwhelmed with the environment around them. The room’s mellow lighting and soothing music allows them to calm down and eventually come back to class. This saves the parents from having to come pick them up and keeps the student at school longer. This is especially helpful in elementary schools, where if one child has a meltdown, it can set off a chain reaction with anyone else on the spectrum.
The schools can use the money for comfy seating, lava lamps and other calming items.
