Firefighters in Cold Lake will soon have another helpful tool in the city’s new lock box program.
The lock box would be located at the front entrance of a building and be locked with a key only the fire department has. A key to the building is kept in inside. This way crews don’t waste  precious minutes waiting for someone with a key to drive over. This is ideal for smaller emergencies that don’t necessarily justify kicking the door in, such as a water leak or a small fire that isn’t threatening to engulf the entire building in flames.
Buildings that aren’t staffed 24/7, such as schools, apartments and some businesses apply for the program. The program isn’t necessary at for example, a hospital where someone with a pair of keys is always on hand.
anyone who believes they may be eligible for a lock box can contact Norm Hollis at the Fire Station at 780-594-4494 ex. 8045.
