The St. Paul RCMP say they’ve noticed an uptick in break-ins to community mailboxes over the past while. They’ve also relayed that Canada Post is aware of the situation and looking into some added security features for rural boxes. In the meanwhile, the RCMP have passed along a few helpful tips:
– Collect your mail promptly after delivery.
– If you’re going to be away, contact Canada Post to hold your mail until you return.
– When you move, ensure you file a change of address promptly. Advise your banks and other companies of your new address as soon as possible.
– If bills or other expected documents fail to arrive within a reasonable time-frame, contact the respective companies for confirmation.
If you see any suspicious activity around a mailbox, contact your local RCMP.
