Work to begin soon on 16 Street sidewalk extension

Work on extending the sidewalk on 16 Street is set to start in the coming weeks.

The City of Cold Lake said the sidewalk will run from around 11 Avenue to 14 Avenue along 16 Street. It will offer about 230 metres of length needed to finish connecting 16 Avenue to 8 Street for pedestrians.

“By completing this section of sidewalk along 16 Street, we can help residents stay safe when walking that section of Cold Lake North, instead of having to walk along the grass or on the road,” said Mayor Bob Mattice.

“We planned to have a sidewalk run all the way up the hill, but it was built in sections to accommodate the road that was built to connect 16 Street and 13 Street.”

Officials added that the project is valued at just over $103,000 and was accounted for in the 2026 budget. The project is expected to start by mid-October.
