MD of Bonnyville Approves 25K for Teen Mental Health Services

The MD of Bonnyville has approved 25,000 dollars to establish a Mental Health clinic with a full-time Mental Health Navigator on staff.

The proposed clinic would be staffed by 8 local doctors giving some of their time on rotation. The position of Mental Health Navigator would consist of coordinating services in the region and directing those with mental health issues on what programs are available. The proposal to get the project off the ground involves the MD, town and the two schools boards in town to fund the clinic at 25 thousand dollars a piece for two years, then Alberta Health Services taking over on funding from there.

The town brought up the proposal at this week’s council meeting with much enthusiasm from Mayor Gene Sobolewski. They’ll vote on approval after a presentation at the next meeting on the 22nd. The MD on the other hand, decided to get a head start and approved the funding without anyone even having to come by.
