A Bonnyville minor league baseball coach is facing a number of charges related to online child exploitation following an investigation by Alberta’s Internet Child Exploitation unit.
The 48-year-old man was arrested on Jan. 28 with the help of Bonnyville RCMP and is facing charges for possession of accessing and distribution of child sexual abuse and exploitation material, and is also charged with bestiality.
In a statement ALERT ICE Staff Sgt. Alison Church said at this time police do not believe any players were victims of the suspect but “he was in a position of trust and authority.”
“We understand how upsetting these allegations are to hear for athletes, parents and the baseball community alike,” Church said.
Police are reported to have seized several electronic devices including a cellphone and laptop.
According to police investigators received several reports in 2025 indicating that child sexual abuse and exploitation material had been uploaded and shared online, with the Bonnyville man having been identified in November 2025.
The suspect has been released on court-ordered conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 24.
