The investigation into a shooting on Big Island Lake Cree Nation that led to a dangerous persons alert late last month is ongoing according to Saskatchewan RCMP.
Police are also investigating a separate report of a firearm being discharged on the First Nation earlier this month. Investigators have not determined whether the two incidents are connected.
Pierceland RCMP, with assistance from Saskatchewan RCMP’s North Battleford provincial general investigation section, are investigating the Jan. 2 incident. Police said shots were fired and bullets struck multiple residences on Big Island Lake Cree Nation. No injuries were reported.
Major crimes investigators continue to investigate the Dec. 30 shooting, which killed a 31-year-old man and sent three others to hospital, prompting a dangerous persons alert.
Insp. Ashley St. Germaine said no arrests have been made and investigators are working to identify and locate the suspects involved.
“If you saw something, say something,” St. Germaine said. “While investigators continue to collect and analyze evidence, including video surveillance, eyewitness accounts will be key to providing answers to the victims and their families.”
Anyone with information related to either incident is asked to contact police or submit an anonymous tip through Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.
Residents of Big Island Lake Cree Nation are advised to expect an increased police presence as the investigations continue, with officers from multiple RCMP units across the province involved.
