Cold Lake city council approved a $10,000 sponsorship for next year’s Xtreme Bulls and Broncs event with hopes that the event builds off of its success and works towards sustainability.
“Large events in a small town often need help getting started,” said Mayor Bob Mattice. “Last year’s event was a tremendous start, and we look forward to seeing how the 2026 event grows from initial success in 2025. It is a unique use of the Energy Centre, and it was an exciting event to see take shape.”
The event, held in Imperial Oil Place at the Cold Lake Energy Centre, has $10,000 in direct sponsorship from the city. The city also agreed to furnish the clay, equipment and other materials to build the floor needed for bull riding and saddle broncs competitions with an addition cost of $45,000.
The materials used for the 2025 event can be reused in 2026 and future years, needing only minor top-ups. As a result the level of support needed is expected to decrease as the event gains popularity within the region.
“They were able to bring in some high-ranking cowboys who were competing at an international level,” said Mattice. “We know it was well received by the crowd, but we also hear that the cowboys themselves appreciated the event, so it sounds like the organizers have a strong foundation to build upon.”
The Xtreme Bulls and Broncs event is scheduled for May 8 and 9, 2026. Additional detail will be released as the event approaches.
