Tiernan (Ty) Mikolas running for Mayor of Cold Lake

Tiernan (Ty) Mikolas is running for Mayor in the upcoming October 20th Cold Lake Municipal Election.

Q1: What are the biggest needs you’re hearing from the residents in the community, and how would you work to address them if elected mayor?

“The biggest challenge for residents currently is the fact that Cold Lake is not safe, the homeless problem here is so wide spread, seniors don’t feel safe walking into Walmart, or down Main Street. I believe the former government has been minimizing the issue and pretending like it will go away, and that addressing it head on is the only way forward.”

“Over the past few years, things have gotten worse here daily, and the current government has essentially infrequently addressed these issues, and only to absolve themselves of blame. I believe that petition must be made to the provincial and local government outlining the exact challenges we face and how these governments have restricted our ability to deal with these issues as a community.”

Q2: What do you see as the most important opportunities for Cold Lake in the next four years, and how would you help the city take advantage of them?

“I think the next few years will be either the turning point where we stop the lavish, unnecessary spending, or the straw that broke the camels back in terms of affordability living in Cold Lake.”

Q3:Cold Lake continues to grow and face new pressures, what is your vision for balancing infrastructure demands with affordability for residents?

“I believe we need to look at the ROI of every penny we spend, to ensure every dollar is stretched to the limit of its usefulness. 2 million to repave the municipal airport that isn’t located in city limits isn’t it. Spending money welcoming people to a town that doesn’t exist anymore while the homeless freeze to death is not in the best interests of any Cold Lakers!”

“It’s not just about what opportunity lies ahead in the next 4 years, it’s about what we have been squandering for the last 40!”
