Ben Mikaelsen – best known for his 2001 novel Touching Spirit Bear – is coming to the Lakeland tomorrow through Friday talking to students and teachers with the Lakeland Catholic School District.
Mikaelsen will host several sessions with students called Becoming the Author of Your Life where he’ll speak about the books he’s written and his experiences as a writer, hopefully inspiring a few of students to take it up themselves. Mikalsen will also be the keynote speaker at the District’s Professional Development day on Friday. After that he’ll work with small groups of teachers int two sessions offering advice on what they can do to promote literacy in their classrooms.
Mikaelsen’s most famous book, Touching Spirit Bear has received multiple awards, including making the American Library Association’s list of Best Fiction for Young Adults.
