Cold Lake is set to go big for Canada Day with a full day of events

Cold Lake is getting ready to celebrate Canada Day with a lineup of family fun, entertainment, and fireworks on July 1.

The day begins at 10 a.m. with beach volleyball and the Canada Day Parade, followed by opening ceremonies at 11 a.m. at Kinosoo Beach. The national anthem will be performed with a flyby by CF-18 fighter jet from 4 Wing Cold Lake.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Vendor Alley will be open, and Canada Day activities for all ages, including sparkling tattoos, bounce houses, face painting, balloon twisting, family entertainment, axe throwing, laser tag, and Golf2Go.

Live performances are set throughout the afternoon, including Music 2gether at 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and again at 1:15 to 2 p.m. Filipino dance group will be performing at 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. and Prairie Funko-Fone performs from 3 to 4 p.m.

Beer gardens will run from 4 to 11 p.m. for those 18 and over with ID and cash required. The evening concert lineup features Carla Sacco as Taylor Swift from 6 to 7:15 p.m. followed by the Main Street Band from 8 to 8:45 p.m.

The day wraps up with a firework show at 11 p.m., put on by local company KNOCS Industries.

Residents are reminded that there will be road closures throughout the day including, 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on 10 Street (7 Avenue to 1 Avenue) and 1 Avenue (16 Street to Spruce Street). 7 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. on 1 Avenue (18 Street to Tamarack Street) for festivities at Kinosoo Beach.

Cold Lake Transit buses will be running extended hours from 9 a.m. to midnight.
