Elk Point Elks and Elk Point Lions Club Teaming Up to Build Skate Park and Washrooms

With so many young Elk Pointers taking up skateboarding, the Elk Point Elks and local Lions feel it’s about time they got a park.

The Elks have been trying to get the project off the ground for several years now but funding efforts stalled out. With the new alliance with the Lions Club and several applications for funding grants filed though, the hope is that work can begin as early as this spring.

The park would go into park area where a spray park and several baseball diamonds are already located. With this in mind the two organizations are also looking into adding washroom facilities in the area that would get a lot of use.

Councillor and Elks Member Lorne Young says there is a great need for a skate park in the community, with it being a very popular activity for young people in the area and there being no place for them to go. Some kids have even started building makeshift parks of their own out of old tires and scraps of wood, but something a little more safe would be greatly preferred.
