Humane Society Raises $68K for New Shelter at Gala

The Lakeland Humane Society’s Dogs & Divas Gala this past weekend managed to raise nearly 68,000 dollars towards building a new shelter.

This year’s theme was “An escape to India” which featured dishes from the country alongside traditional western food. The gala is the only fundraising initiative the Society undertakes every year that goes towards building the new shelter.  They’ve managed to raise roughly 750,000 of the estimated two million dollar price tag so far and hope to fast track construction to begin some time in 2017.

As for conditions at the shelter right now, a slew of adoptions has left some spaces open for cats, but facilities for dogs remains at capacity.
