The 2014 Alberta Urban Municipalities Association Convention has begun in Edmonton

The annual AUMA convention starts today (Sept. 24) and will run until Friday (Sept. 26) afternoon. The AUMA Board, which has a mandate to act on the behalf of it’s members (municipalities), will be presented with a resolution from the City of Cold Lake.

The resolution, which was co-sponsored by the Town of Bonnyville and Town of St. Paul, requests the Alberta government create legislation to provide incentives and financial support for further discussion of amalgamation or regional government.

City of Cold Lake Mayor, Craig Copeland, says Strathcona County is a great example of regional collaboration.

Mayor Copeland adds after speaking with a number of business owners in the area, it seems as though the local business sector believes uniting as one could be beneficial.
