St. Paul Lion Jacob Petruk heading to national prospect game in Hamilton

Jacob Petruk, an offensive lineman with the St. Paul Lions, has earned a spot in the 2025 CFC Prospect Game.

For Lions head coach, Mark Tichkowsky, seeing one of his players reach this stage is a special moment

“We couldn’t be more proud to see one of our own representing St. Paul and Elk Point on such a big stage,” he said. “It’s remarkable achievement that reflects Jacob’s individual talent and hard work in the sport of football. Watching a student rise to this level is both inspiring and a testament to what’s possible with dedication, support, and perseverance.”

The CFC Prospect Game is now in its fifth year and is one of the most anticipated events in Canadian high school football. Organized by CanadaFootballChat.com in partnership with TSN, the game has become a way for athletes to move on to U Sports and NCAA programs. Past players have earned scholarships at schools like Ole Miss, Syracuse, and Wisconsin and this year’s roster is being called the “deepest yet” by CFC organizers.

Jacob’s selection came after a cross-country combine tour where scouts evaluated athletes on everything from 40-yard dash times to vertical jumps. It is a competitive process that makes him being chosen more impressive.

Tichkowsky said he offered Jacob a few words of encouragement before he heads east. “As his coach, my advice to Jacob is simple: stay grounded trust your preparation, and enjoy every moment,” he said. “These are the experiences that shape not just athletes but leaders. You’ve earned this opportunity now go out there and show them who you are.”

Jacob’s rise to the national spotlight didn’t happen by accident. “What sets Jacob apart, beyond his athletic ability, is his mindset. He shoes up every day ready to work, ready to learn, and ready to lead. He’s a team-first player who puts in the extra reps when no one’s watching,” Tichkowsky said, adding that it doesn’t go unnoticed. “That kind of disipline and humility doesn’t go unnoticed, and I believe it’s a big reason why he stood out on a national level.”

He said Jacob doesn’t just play with intensity but also with intelligence. “He understands the game, respects the process, and carries himself with quiet confidence. Whether he’s making a big play or supporting his teammates, he brings a consistency and maturity well beyond his years.”

Whether you are watching from the stands or from home, all eyes in Lakeland will be on number 75, Jacob Petruk.

“On behalf of the entire Lions family, congratulations, Jacob. We’ll be cheering you on all the way,” said Tichkowsky.

The national showcase, which features the top 75 high school football players from across the country, will take place on May 24 at Hamilton Stadium and be broadcast live on TSN, kickoff is set for 11:15 a.m. EST.
