The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority says the brush fire burning near Highway 660 and Range Road 465 has been brought under control and crews remain on-site working to extinguish flare-ups and hotspots.
“Matting has been placed to allow vehicles and equipment to access the core of the brush where muskeg-like terrain hinders operations. The northeast corner was excavated, removing much of the peatmoss and roots burning underground,” according to a media release on May 8.Â
Sprinklers are now being installed and will run continuously in key areas.
“The M.D. of Bonnyville supplied a large water tank to feed the sprinklers. Work continues on cleanup and site remediation.”
Officials say dry and windy conditions are being closely monitored in case the situation changes.
