A 31-year-old Cherry Grove man is facing multiple charges after Cold Lake RCMP responded to reports of a masked individual breaking windows at a business in Cold Lake south on May 1.
“Initial reports suggested that a security guard, who was nearby, approached the male while the incident was happening,” according to information released by RCMP. “The suspect subsequently began throwing stones at the security guard and then fled the scene, where he was observed getting into a taxi.”
RCMP determines that the amount of damage done to the business exceeded $5,000.
RCMP arrested John Cook on May 2 following the investigation. Officers also executed a search warrant at a residence in Cherry Grove to look for evidence related to the offence.
Cook was charged with assault with a weapon, mischief over $5,000, disguise with intent to commit an offence, and failing to comply with conditions of a probation order.
Cook was brought before a Justice of the Peace and was released on conditions. He is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Cold Lake on May 23.
