Man uses stolen trackhoe to damage Bonnyville RCMP vehicles

A man is in custody after five police vehicles were damaged by a stolen trackhoe at the Bonnyville RCMP detachment on the evening of Saturday, May 3.

RCMP say the incident happened around 6:55 p.m., when a male suspect drove the heavy equipment into the detachment’s parking lot.

“The suspect dumped several boulders in front of the prisoner bay and then proceeded to damage five police vehicles, which were parked in the lot. The suspect then fled on foot,” according to information released by RCMP on the morning of May 4th.

“Bonnyville RCMP, Police Dog Services and RPAS (drone), searched for the suspect and he was quickly located in a tree line just north west of the detachment. He was arrested and is currently in custody pending a Judicial Interim Release Hearing,” reads the information from police.

The suspect’s name has not been released as charges have not yet been sworn before the courts. RCMP say an update is expect in the coming days.
