Fire restriction in effect for M.D. of Bonnyville

A fire restriction is now in place for the Municipal District of Bonnyville, the Summer Village of Bonnyville Beach, Summer Village of Pelican Narrows, and the Village of Glendon, effective May 1, at 2:00 p.m.

This restriction means that all existing fire permits are suspended, and no new permits will be issued. Any existing fires must be extinguished immediately.

While safe wood campfires within fire rings in campgrounds and on privately owned land are allowed, all outdoor wood fires fuelled by charcoal briquettes on public lands, including backcountry and random camping areas, are banned. The use of fireworks and exploding targets is also prohibited.

However, safe wood campfires, including charcoal briquettes, are allowed on private lands and in provincial campgrounds. Backyard fire pits and charcoal briquette barbecues on private land are permitted as well. Additionally, propane and natural gas-powered appliances are allowed. Cooking, warming, and lighting devices must be CSA approved and used as per manufacturers standards.

It is important to remember to never leave a campfire unattended, be sure to soak it, stir it, and soak it again until it is cool to the touch to ensure it is fully extinguished.

If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE.
