Walsh Field Planning Serious Upgrades

Walsh Field is going to look very different soon if a local group can see their dream come true.

A delegation calling themselves “Friends of Walsh Field” representing the field arrived at the MD’s council meeting today to show some of the new plans they have. Mickey Fangan gave a speech outlining the details, including replacing the current grass field with state of the art field turf and getting rid of the concrete running track and bringing in a proper surface. The latter will allow the field to host sanctioned track and field events.

Also included in the plans are new change rooms for visiting teams -something that doesn’t exist at the moment- as well as a giant 18 foot video screen that will display ads when not being used for games. This feature is expected to make up a significant portion of the new field’s price tag, which would be 1.4 million dollars to get the turf in alone.

Fangan added that the new field will be 100% accessible to the public, just as the current one is.  The MD will decide whether or not they’ll help fund the project at a later date.
