Bonnyville RCMP are asking for public assistance in identifying those responsible for stealing a fire truck from the Iron River Hall in the early hours on April 10.
According to RCMP the theft happened around 1:30 a.m., when the suspects broke into the Fire Hall and stole the truck. The truck was later found with ‘minor damage’ in a ditch off Range Road 490, south of Township Road 625.
“It should be noted that the Iron River Fire Department was dispatched to a barn fire less than an hour after the truck was stolen and their response was negatively impacted by the theft,” RCMP stated.
“The fire truck was also the fire department’s Medical Emergency Response Unit and could have had a grave negative impact had there been a medical emergency while it was missing.”
Police are searching for a person of interest who was captured on video surveillance during the break-in, as well as a vehicle RCMP believe to be connected to the incident.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Bonnyville RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
