Staff at St. Paul Elementary School acted fast on March 31 when an unknown man entered the school.
According to St. Paul RCMP, officers were called around 1 p.m. after reports of a male attempting to break into a residence in the area. Before police arrived, the suspect had moved from the residence to the nearby school.
Officers entered the school, located the suspect, and arrested him without incident. Public Information Officer, Kellieka Formanek confirmed staff stopped the man as soon as he entered, and police took him into custody immediately.
In a email to parents on April 1, the school assured families the situation was handled quickly and calmly. “At approximately 1:30 p.m. (March 31), an individual entered the school and was immediately met by school administration. RCMP were called and arrested the individual without incident,” the message stated.
The message further state, “The situation was resolved swiftly and calmly, with no disruption to learning. No students witnessed the event, and all staff and students remained safe throughout.”
The suspect identified as 45-year-old Elmer Horace Jackson of St. Paul, has been charged with break and enter and mischief under $5,000. He was held for a judicial hearing and later released on conditions. Jackson is scheduled to appear in St. Paul Court of Justice on April 24.
