Lakeland Catholic School Division Superintendent Sheldon Germain Receives King Charles III Coronation Medal

Lakeland Catholic School Division Superintendent Sheldon Germain, has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal for his outstanding contributions to public service in Canada.

The medal was presented by Laila Goodridge, member of Parliament for Fort McMurray-Cold Lake, on behalf of the Governor General of Canada. The award recognizes Germain’s decades of dedication to education and municipal leadership in Northern Alberta, including 30 years as a teacher, coach and principal, as well as 19 years as a municipal councillor.

“It is my honour to recognize Sheldon Germain for the spectacular lifetime of work he has done in service to his community and for the students throughout northeastern Alberta,” said MP Laila Goodridge. “Sheldon has quietly worked hard making our schools and community better for 30-plus years. He truly deserving of this recognition.”

Board Chair Anna Brockhoff echoed these thoughts. “It is a privilege to have Superintendent Sheldon Germain leading the Lakeland Catholic School Division. His commitment to excellence, collaborative leadership, and dedication to students and families exemplify the very best of Catholic education.”

Germain expressed his gratitude for the honor, crediting the achievement to the many individuals who have shared in hid journey. “It is incredibly humbling to receive this honor,” he said. “This medal is a testament to the power of service, faith, and steadfast commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.”

This is the second big recognition for Germain, who was also named Keyano College’s Distinguished Alumni in November 2024.
