The Government of Alberta has approved a $150,000 grant to study waste collection and recycling in the St. Paul and surrounding areas.
The initiative, called the Regional Service Delivery – Waste Management project, aims to assess how waste services are managed and explore opportunities for regional collaboration.
The funding comes from the Intermunicipal Collaboration component of the Alberta Community Partnership program. The town of St. Paul is managing the project but the study includes members of the Evergreen Regional Waste Management Services Commission. This includes the villages of Vilna and Waskatenau, the towns of Elk Point, St. Paul and Smoky Lake as well as the county of St. Paul and Smoky Lake.
“The work will include an extensive look into the operations, capacity, and management of municipal solid waste activities,” said CAO of the town of St. Paul Steven Jeffery.
The study will help identify overlaps, gaps, and ways to improve waste management services across these areas.
