A new partnership between Age Friendly Cold Lake (AFCL) and Cold Lake and District FCSS is working to create a more compassionate and dementia-friendly community.
With funding from Nav-Care, a national program supported by Health Canada, the initiative will improve support for people living with Dementia and their caregivers. According to the city of Cold Lake, AFCL was chosen as one of a few organizations across Canada to receive financial contributions from Nav-Care.
City council discussed how the funding, paid in three parts throughout 2025, will be used to raise awareness, provide education, and encourage community involvement. “This is an agreement with Age Friendly. They’re in partnership with Nav-Care funding, and they provide funding for engagement, education and support for persons living with dementia and declining health,” said city of Cold Lake CAO Kevin Nagoya.
FCSS will also play a key role in delivering the program by training staff, conducting a community survey, and developing resources like a caregiver’s toolkit. The initiative will promote dementia-friendly practices in local businesses and organizations.
City council unanimously approved the partnership agreement, with total funding reaching $39,568 by the end of 2025.
