Six new transition beds opened at the Cold Lake Healthcare Centre on February 10 to help patients who are waiting for a space in a continuing care facility.
These beds provide temporary care for people who are medically stable and no longer need hospital treatment but aren’t ready to go home. Care will be available 24/7 from nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals.
The beds will help improve patient flow in hospitals across Bonnyville, St. Paul, Cold Lake and Elk Point.
MLA for Bonnyville-Cold Lake-St. Paul, Scott Cyr, called the new beds an important addition to local healthcare. “This investment means better patient flow, reduced hospital stays, and improved access to acute care for those who need it most,” he wrote in a social media post after touring Cold Lake Healthcare Centre on February 6.
