Construction has officially begun on a new boat launch at Cold Lake MD Park, with in-water work expected to be completed this winter and final paving and landscaping scheduled for June.
The project, confirmed in a notice posted by the MD of Bonnyville on January 9, is part of the municipality’s 2024 Capital Projects Budget, which has allocated $500,000 for construction, engineering services and project management.
The new boat launch is being built to replace an old launch that had been closed due to its poor condition. Greg Sheppard, the MD’s manager of parks and recreation, explained that the project aims to restore access to the water and provide an improved launch for park visitors.
Sheppard noted that the nearby Cold Lake campground has sene significant growth, more than doubling in size, which has led to increased demand for access to the lake.
While the park remains open to residence, visitors are urged to stay clear of the construction area, which is fenced off for safety due to the presence of open water.
Fencing wills tay in place until the water refreezes and is safe.
