The city of Cold Lake and the Municipal District of Bonnyville are teaming up for a friendly competition to support a great cause.
During the January 14, M.D. council meeting, Reeve Barry Kalinski challenged Cold Lake Mayor Craig Copeland to a shootout showdown at the upcoming 86Cancer Charity Hockey Game on January 31.
The challenge will take place during intermission, with the Reeve and Mayor facing off in a shootout. The stakes are lighthearted but fun, the one who scores the least goals must wear a shirt featuring the winner’s municipal logo at a future council meeting.
“This is for a really great cause. Cancer touches so many lives in our area, and I wanted to shine a spotlight on this charity hockey game,” said Reeve Barry Kalinski.
Mayor Copeland added, “By challenging each other, we can also challenge our communities to come out and pack the seats at the charity hockey game. Regardless of who wins, it’s sure to be a spectacular event for a great cause.”
The 86Cancer Charity Hockey Game has raised over $20,000 in the past three years to support the Bonnyville Cancer Clinic, helping families in the Lakeland who are affected by cancer. This year’s game will be held at the Cold Lake Energy Centre, starting at 7:00 p.m. on January 31.
Tickets are $10 each, and kids under five get in for free. Tickets can be purchased at Cold Lake Brewing and Distilling, Sylvester’s Source For Sports in Bonnyville, Sunshine Game & Hobby in St. Paul, or at the door on game night. For more information, visit http://86Cancer.ca.
