The city of Cold Lake confirms funding for Safe Haven baby box

Cold Lake city council has taken a step towards supporting parents in crisis by approving a $25,000 seed grant for the development of a Safe Haven baby box program at Covenant Health’s Bonnyville Health Centre.

The baby boxes are designed as secure, anonymous locations where parents can safely surrender their infants to healthcare professionals.

Mayor Craig Copeland acknowledged the importance of the initiative, stating, “The idea of creating a Safe Haven box in the Lakeland has been in discussion for some time now. There is a lot of support for the idea, but the logistics of making it happen are still up to the organization.”

The allocated funds will remain in restricted surplus until Covenant Health confirms the program’s official launch at the Bonnyville Health Centre.
