The Bonnyville RCMP have confirmed the tragic drowning of a 32-year-old Edmonton man at Moose Lake, following an extensive water search and rescue operation.
On August 4, at approximately 11:58 a.m., Bonnyville RCMP received a distress call reporting a potential drowning incident on Moose Lake. Witnesses reported that two individuals were operating a Sea-Doo when both fell into the water. While one person resurfaced, the other remained missing. The missing individual was reportedly not wearing a life jacket at the time of the incident.
Emergency services were immediately deployed to the scene, but the initial search efforts failed to locate the missing man.
On August 5, at 5:22 p.m., the search was intensified with the support of a specialized underwater search team, Alberta Search and Rescue teams, an RCMP police dog, and an RCMP drone. After several hours of searching, the body of the missing Edmonton resident was found submerged in the water.
The deceased has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, where an autopsy will be conducted to confirm cause of death.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing. The Bonnyville RCMP have expressed their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased during this time.
