Tragic collision claims two Lac La Biche area residents

Two residents from the Lac La Biche area tragically lost their lives in a collision on Highway 28 near Spedden in Smoky Lake County on July 4.

Smoky Lake RCMP reported receiving a call about a serious vehicle collision between a car and a large pickup truck at 10:40 p.m. on Highway 28 near Range Road 121. Upon arrival, emergency crews found that two occupants of a Mazda sedan were deceased. The occupant of the GMC 3500 sustained minor injuries and was taken to hospital by EMS, according to an RCMP media release.

Police identified the deceased as a 33-year-old woman and a 37-year-old man, both from the Lac La Biche area. RCMP remained at the scene for several hours conducting their investigation. Early indications suggest that the Mazda struck an animal, causing it to swerve into oncoming traffic, where it collided with the GMC.

RCMP expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased in their news release.
