MD of Bonnyville approves development permit for Wild Rose Disposal

On June 25, during the MD of Bonnyville council meeting, Wild Rose Disposal received approval for a development permit application for minor rural industrial use.

The permit allows the non-hazardous waste collection business to operate 650 feet east of the Town of Bonnyville on highway 659, just south of the Barrier Lake multi-lot subdivision.

The administration noted that Wild Rose Disposal is selling the business and required the permit to comply with the Land Use Bylaw. The motion was approved despite some concerns from Coun. Dana Swigart. He mentioned that the satellite image provided at the meeting suggested the site might not be tidy and expressed surprise that there were no responses from adjacent landowners.

Letters were sent to nearby landowners on May 28 and to Bonnyville on May 29, asking for feedback on the permit application. However, no responses were received, and no one attended the council meeting to voice opinions on the project. According to the MD of Bonnyville, no concerns were raised by neighbors, and the town of Bonnyville was supportive of the development.

Wild Rose Disposal committed to maintaining the site in a tidy condition with minimal dust and noise disturbances. Esther Quiambao, the MD of Bonnyville’s general manager of Planning and Community Services, explained that physical letters are mailed to adjacent landowners, and public hearings are held to facilitate resident feedback. Feedback can be provided by mail, email, telephone, or in person, making the process accessible to the public.

The approval of the application came with conditions, including ensuring that lighting does not have adverse effects, complying with safety bylaws and provincial and federal regulations, and submitting new permit applications upon expansion. Additionally, the permit may be revoked if the use becomes non-compliant, detrimental, or a nuisance to the neighborhood, as per the MD of Bonnyville.
