New Garbage Collection Method in Cold Lake

The City of Cold Lake has rolled out a pilot project for automated waste cart collection .

About 1,000 households in several Cold Lake neighbourhoods will receive new waste carts and information packages detailing the new system.

The new carts will allow households to dispose of the same volume of waste as was allowed under the old system. The initial rollout is the first phase of four implementations that will ultimately see the automated waste cart collection system expanded City-wide.

Organic and recycling pickup will not be affected by the new system and will continue as before.

Notes about the new system:

  • The waste collection schedule is not affected.
  • The waste collection cart must be placed in front of the curb with at least one metre of space around the bin and three metres of clearance above the bin for it to be collected safely.
  • Waste must be bagged before it is placed in the bin – loose waste may not be collected. Bags must not be crammed into the cart so that they will not fall out when collected.
  • The bins remain the property of the City and are associated with addresses. If residents move, the bins must stay at the proper address. Contact information for repairs or replacements will be provided when the bins are delivered.
