Enterovirus D-68 Found in Alberta

A respiratory virus that is causing havoc state-side has been found in Alberta. Alberta Health Services confirms Enterovirus D-68 (EV D-68) has been found in over a dozen cases in the province. The virus, which causes serious respiratory problems, has been seen in The United States as of late and since being confirmed in Alberta in August it has hospitalized 18 young people under the age of 18. The provincial lab is now testing to see if it’s the same strain of EV-D68 as the one causing problems in the U.S. This type of virus spreads like the flu, and parents are advised to keep sick children home from school to help eliminate the spread of viruses, such as this one.
