Fay May has made history as the first-ever Lightning Lotto jackpot winner in the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) region, taking home a $158,709.10 prize from the May 3 Lightning Lotto draw. May purchased her winning ticket from the Shoppers Drug Mart in Lloydminster Mall.
May, who resides in Elk Point, was curious about the new game and decided to buy a ticket while on her way to a dentist appointment in Lloydminster. She described her experience, stating, “I had read how it works and just wanted to see for myself. Then all of a sudden, the lightning bolt showed up, and the lightning sound effect and number came up. The cashier was so excited.”
The winning numbers on May’s ticket were 15,17,30,32 and 41. This makes her the first winner in the Prairies to claim a Lightning Lotto jackpot since the game’s launch on April 30. The game offers players the chance to instantly win a growing jackpot that starts at $100,000.
May shared her excitement after discovering her win, saying, “I called my daughter and husband, and they were so excited.” She and her husband have big plans for their unexpected windfall. “We’re going to Europe-to Italy!” She exclaimed. “And my husband and I are going to go to a NASCAR race. We haven’t gone since before COVID, so we’re really excited.”
She added, “It’s great to save for retirement, but we want to do stuff.”
Lightning Lotto tickets are available exclusively at Lotto Spot retailers across the WCLC region. Players can win instantly in-store and claim prizes of up to $1,000 on the spot. The game also offers an optional EXTRA draw for an additional $1 per selection, with prizes ranging from $2 to $250,000.
