UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Saddle Lake Abduction Case

On April 13th, the St. Paul RCMP informed that Conrad Cardinal had been arrested and is currently in custody. There is no additional risk to the public.

The St. Paul RCMP are actively investigating an abduction incident that unfolded on the evening of April 7, in Saddle Lake. Authorities responded to a report of a break and enter and assault at a residential property at approximately 10:00 p.m., where evidence suggested a couple had been assaulted and 49-year-old Corinne Steinhauer was forcibly taken from the scene against her will.

Authorities have identified their prime suspect as 37-year-old Saddle Lake resident Conrad Cardinal. Despite an intense search effort, Cardinal’s whereabouts are unknown.

Following the abduction, a yellow full-size school bus was reported stolen from the residence, with Cardinal and Steinhauer allegedly fleeing the scene in the vehicle. The bus, adorned with decals bearing “Bus #25” and “Saddle Lake Education Authority,” was later discovered abandoned, raising concerns about the safety and well-being of the individuals involved.

In a development providing some relief to the community, RCMP officials have confirmed that Corinne Steinhauer has been located safely.

Described as having a slender complexion, black hair, brown eyes, standing 5 feet 7 inches tall, and weighing approximately 150 pounds, Conrad Cardinal is considered violent and dangerous. The Alberta RCMP Major Crime Unit, in conjunction with local law enforcement, remains committed to apprehending Cardinal and bringing him to justice.

Authorities urge anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Conrad Cardinal or details pertinent to the investigation to contact 911 immediately. Individuals can also provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8577.
