Vermillion to host “Connect for Food” event on April 15th

A gathering focused on understanding the local food scene is set to take place in Vermillion where participants can discuss, exchange ideas, and showcase their efforts to support the regional economy and food sector.

Scheduled for April 15th at the Vermillion Regional Centre, the event organized by Connect for Food aims to bring people together to explore the local food story, build connections, and shed light on productive initiatives in the community.

Keleigh Cornier, one of the event organizers, highlighted the need to address the “disconnect” between growers, farmers’ markets, and consumers in the region.

“In this region, we have a lot of growers, farmers’ markets, and consumers – we really seem to be disconnected. That’s what we found through our previous workshops,” said Cornier.

The event, supported by Prairies Economic Development Canada through Community Futures, seeks to facilitate discussions on the local food system’s challenges, opportunities, and gaps.

“That’s been the whole focus of this Connect for Food process. It’s bringing people together to talk about opportunities around our food system,” says Cornier, highlighting the initiative’s purpose.

The Connect for Food event will begin with a local showcase and breakfast, followed by morning sessions starting at 9:00 a.m. Lunch, featuring a menu made from local ingredients, will be served at noon, followed by afternoon workshops until 4 p.m.

Participants can visit the Connect for Food website and social media pages for more information about the event, including registration and program details.
