Lakeland Marathon of Hope

Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope has been continued in the Lakeland. On Sunday, Lakelanders joined more than 200-thousand Canadians in almost 800 communities across the Country in the annual Terry Fox Run. At the time Terry Fox was treated for the bone cancer that claimed his leg and eventually led to his death in 1981, few patients survived that kind of malignancy, known as an osteosarcoma. Since Fox began his Marathon of Hope, 650-million dollars has been raised in the fight against cancer, which in turn, has lifted cure rates to 80 per cent in younger patients with bone sarcoma and nearly 70 per cent in older patients.
